Gold Price in Pakistan — How It's Calculated

Pakistan's gold price is quoted in tola — a traditional South Asian unit equal to 11.664 grams. The daily gold rate is set by the All Pakistan Sarafa Jewellers Association and the Karachi Sarafa Bazaar, based on the international gold spot price (in USD per troy ounce) converted to PKR using the State Bank's daily exchange rate.

Different karat values represent different purity levels: 24K is pure gold (99.9%), 22K is 91.6% pure (the most common in Pakistani jewelry), 21K is 87.5% pure, and 18K is 75% pure. The more karats, the higher the gold content and price per gram.

Pakistan Prize Bonds — How They Work

Pakistan Prize Bonds are government-issued savings instruments managed by the State Bank of Pakistan. They are sold at face value (Rs. 100 to Rs. 40,000) and entered into quarterly prize draws instead of earning regular interest — making them a popular choice for people who want to save in a Shariah-compliant way (no riba). Winning bonds are selected by random draw, and prizes range from a first prize of Rs. 750,000 (on the Rs. 100 bond) up to Rs. 80,000,000 on the Rs. 40,000 premium bond.

Zakat on Gold in Pakistan

Gold is zakatable if the total value of your gold holdings (plus other assets) exceeds the nisab threshold and has been held for one full lunar year. The standard nisab in Pakistan using the silver standard is around 612 grams of silver or its equivalent value in gold. The Hanafi fiqh (followed by most Pakistanis) includes all gold and silver jewelry as zakatable, regardless of whether it is worn. Zakat is calculated at 2.5% of the total market value of your gold holdings above the nisab.

Pakistani banks automatically deduct 2.5% Zakat on savings accounts each Ramadan under the Zakat and Ushr Ordinance 1980 — but this does not cover your physical gold. You must calculate and pay Zakat on physical gold separately, which this calculator helps you estimate.

How to Check Prize Bond Results

Prize bond draws in Pakistan are held quarterly by the State Bank of Pakistan. Results are announced on the SBP website (sbp.org.pk) and National Savings (savings.gov.pk). You can also check results at any National Savings Centre or authorized bank branch. Winning prize bonds must be encashed within 6 years of the draw date.

Are Pakistan Prize Bonds halal?

Most Islamic scholars consider prize bonds permissible (halal) because they do not pay interest — instead, you get a chance to win prizes through a random draw. This is considered a form of government savings, not gambling, and no money is at risk (you can always redeem the bond at face value). However, some scholars have differing opinions, so if you're unsure, consult a qualified Islamic scholar.

Do I pay tax on prize bond winnings in Pakistan?

Yes. Prize bond winnings in Pakistan are subject to withholding tax. For ATL filers, 15% withholding tax is deducted on winnings. For non-filers, the rate is 25%. This tax is deducted at source when you encash a winning bond.

Is Zakat applicable on prize bonds?

Yes. Prize bonds are considered monetary assets (equivalent to cash) and are zakatable if their total value, combined with other assets, exceeds the nisab threshold at the end of the lunar year. Calculate 2.5% Zakat on their face value.
